By Tierney Modglin Story Published: May 22, 2009 at 6:09 PM CDT (Story Updated: May 22, 2009 at 7:26 PM CDT) VIDEO Three Sisters Park is a hopping place to be this weekend after kicking off the ninth annual Summer Camp music festival. This event is more than just a good time. Summer camp officials say there are positive aspects to the music scene. Summer Camp Director Mike Armintrout says, "People not only care about the music but they care about different aspects of the environment and sociopolitical issues." Summer Camp attracts people from all over the country to come set up tents for a weekend of music.
With 76 bands and more than 70 vendors, Armintrout says this is an event participants won't soon forget. Summer Camp participant Danny Biggins says, "My band is playing so that's the main purpose for coming out this year but it's just such a great place to like unwind and be outside and it really gives a chance for everyone to unite." Whether they're in a band or here for a group, or supporting a cause, music remains the main ingredient to the summer symphony. Summer Camp participant Deanna Gaetto says, "My favorite band of all time is playing it's actually my cousins band...they're amazing and I follow them everywhere." Summer Camp officials are expecting around 10,000 people this weekend and when you have a large crowd of people someone's bound to need some type of medical assistance. So OSF has set up a medical response team that will be on site all weekend long. That response team is 80 people strong, with the help of 24 hospitals. And team members say they've treated about 30 people since Thursday. OSF Manager of Disaster Preparedness Troy Erbentraut says, "Well it's a very large group of people that get together and have a lot of fun. It's just, we feel like it's our mission to provide medical care for the people that are out here and make sure that nothing bad happens to them and see if we can get everybody home safe." While medical officials try to get people home safe... The campgrounds are home sweet home this weekend. http://www.week.com/news/local/45874292.html
