KSDK -- The Gallatin County, Illinois sheriff has been charged by a Federal Grand Jury for allegedly distributing marijuana and carrying a firearm while drug trafficking.

46-year-old Raymond Martin of Junction, Illinois faces three counts of distribution of marijuana and two counts of carrying a firearm during an in relation to a drug trafficking crime.
Martin was arrested at his office on May 18 and denied bond. Federal prosecutors alleged Martin would sell pounds of pot, some of it seized by his own department. Investigators said Martin would sometimes sell it while in uniform and from his patrol vehicle.
Martin's campaign pledges included cracking down on drug traffickers.
If convicted, Martin could face up to life in prison.
